Upset with your Dog’s Behavior?
When your dog’s behavior is not quite up to par it is not only
frustrating, but it can also be the cause of embarrassment in public.
Behavior problems vary greatly from one dog
to the next, depending on a
variety of different things.
Some breeds are prone to certain behavioral problems; my Chihuahuas for
example are avid barkers, while black labs often like to jump on people.
These are just two examples of common problems, but take my word for it,
there are plenty of others.
In many ways, dogs have a lot in common with children; they look to us for
support and guidance, love and discipline. It is up to you to teach them how
to be polite and social and to guide them away from poor habits and
anti-social behavior.
Just like raising children, training dogs takes patience and perseverance,
especially when teaching new commands or trying to correct your dog’s
behavior. This can only be achieved with regular and consistent training
sessions. If you give up on a certain command before your dog has achieved
the goals you set, the dog could see you as weak and that could lead to even
more difficulties. Another bad thing about quitting a training session early
is that your dog can become confused about your intentions and “not listen”
simply because it has no idea what you want it to do.

A lot of new dog owners seek the aid of professional trainers to help teach
their dog as well as to learn themselves more about their dog and how they
can continue to train and teach it themselves. This can quite often be a
pricey option for a dog’s behavior training, and a number of people out
there simply cannot afford to hire a professional dog trainer.
If you are one of these dog owners, there’s no need to fret. There are a
tremendous amount of free resources available for dog owners to learn about
training techniques, trouble behaviors, and dog psychology. Go to your local
Library and you’re sure to find a great selection of books, cds, and even
videos to help you learn about your dog and the best way to train it.
Every dog is different; they all have a unique personality, and all have
unique needs. This is why it is so very important that you pay close
attention to your dog’s personality and observe how it reacts to different
stimuli. You’ll find that one training technique could work very well with
one dog, but the same technique just won’t work at all with another.
Paying attention to your dog’s personality will help you to choose a
training method that best suits your companion. If you’re patient, dedicated
and attentive, training your dog’s behavior will be fun as well as
rewarding.
