Dealing with Dog House Training Issues

Now that you have found your companion and best friend, it’s time to think about the various methods and techniques out there for dog house training. Be it den trainingDog Training where the dog is confined to a small area, or crate training, the dog starts out having that instinct to keep his ‘house’ clean.

Starting out on the right foot in this training process can avoid backtracking later if the dog regresses to its old habit of going where he feels like it. Most of us have jobs we must be at so we can’t be available 24/7 to watch our dogs and make this training as speedy as possible. Just remember that training can take up to 6 months and rushing into it too fast for the sake of your own sanity is not recommended.

Start with teaching your dog bowel control. This comes easier to puppies as they generally need time to develop bladder control. Taking the puppy out in the great outdoors frequently ensures they have ample time to get things going and can establish a schedule. If you don’t make time for that walk in the park often enough you just may have a puppy that has accident after accident in their crate or den area. Once boredom sets in, puppies tend to drink more water, meaning they must relieve themselves more frequently. Keeping your puppy occupied with lots of toys, outdoor time and activity, reduces their need or wanting to chew or bite or just generally misbehave for attention. So that walk in the park does both of you good.

When dog house training, be sure introduce their den or crate properly. They should see this as a comfortable place to sleep and relax, not as a place to go for punishment. And they will soon get the hint that this is not the place for toilet duties, but will learn to wait for that walk to do their stuff. Getting to know your dog’s habits and routine helps you plan activity, meals and walks accordingly. Ignoring your dog’s needs and not properly dog house training them is no fault of the dog. So rethink your methods before sending the dog to an animal shelter.

Make sure their new environment has lots of paper on the floor and food and water nearby. He’ll soon get that the paper isn’t for playing with and chewing but for relieving himself on. It’s a bit of work for you and another ‘room’ to clean but taking the time to properly do dog house training is important for a positive end result. Gradually reduce the paper in his crate or den, then start to move it inch by inch outside the house. When you get to this stage, your puppy is nearing his graduation.

However, accidents will still happen. But dog house training in the puppy stage will ensure you set good ground rules and behavior which will make for a much happier puppy and owner.
