Crate Training - Puppy

Crate training puppy is what smart dog owners do because it has many benefits. For instance, training with a crate makes housebreaking a puppy much easier. Dog Training

In nature, wild dogs sleep in dens and since they do not want to go to the bathroom where they sleep, they learn to go outside. Once your puppy learns that the crate is its bed and begins to feel comforted and safe there, it will not want to go the bathroom in its bed. This is why crate training a puppy makes house breaking so much easier. Make sure the crate has enough room for your puppy but is not so big that it can mess far away enough from where it sleeps or else the crate training will not be effective.

Leave your puppy in the crate over night so that it will not make a mess or get into trouble while you are sleeping. When you put your puppy to bed in the crate at night, do not take it out if it howls or barks. Your puppy may whimper or howl when you put it in its crate because your puppy is lonely. This is natural because your puppy is not use to being by its self but soon your puppy will adjust and feel comfortable there.

To make this process easier, make sure the crate is a pleasant place to be in. Put your puppy’s favorite toy or an old blanket that smells familiar in the crate. Your puppy is likely to go to the bathroom in its crate until it understands the crate is its bed so make sure anything in the crate is washable.

You can also put your puppy’s food in the crate but never put your puppy in the crate as punishment. If your puppy has an accident put it outside instead of in the crate so it does not associate the crate with being bad.

Your puppy should be in its crate anytime you are not there to supervise it; your puppy is much safer in its crate when you are not around. Do not, however, leave your puppy alone for long periods of time; you can not expect it to go for more than a few hours without a bathroom break.

Crate training works well for housebreaking puppies because it encourages the puppy to wait as long as they can to go to the bathroom and it helps them to build control over their bodies. Take your puppy out to the yard as late as possible before bed and plan to take it out again as soon as it wakes up and soon after it eats to eliminate accidents.

You do not need wait for your puppy to scratch at the door to go out, you can pick it up and bring it outside yourself. When your puppy goes to the bathroom outside, praise it extensively and give it a treat. When your puppy goes to the bathroom inside the house, show him the mess and firmly say ‘No, Outside’ and then take the puppy outside.

Be consistent with your puppy and you will be able to crate train it much faster. Once your puppy is crate trained, you can take the crate whenever your puppy is away from home to keep you puppy safe and relieve anxiety it may have about being in a new place.

Housebreaking, safety, and comfort for your puppy are major issues dog owners face. What better way to solve the issues at once by crate training puppy while it is still young.
