Puppy Training - Patience Is A Must

When you have a new puppy, remember it is important to do your puppy training with patience. Remember that the earlier you start the training, the more quickly your puppyDog Training will understand and respond to your command, but make sure not to rush the puppy training process. You can start training your puppy as early as 8 weeks old. Puppies are full of energy and they are just learning to adapt to the world around them. This means that training may take some time and a little extra patience on your part, but in the end it will all be worth it.

Puppies love to chew. Unfortunately their chewing may include your shoes or pants leg. To put a stop to this, gently push down on your puppy's backside and firmly say "no". The puppy learns that this is unacceptable behavior and will mature into a dog that knows better than to chew and roughhouse with you.

All puppies love to play and it's important that you spend time with them. The way you interact with your puppy while playing now will have an impact on how he or she behaves with you in later years. Avoid games like tug of war or games that make your puppy want to compete with humans for an object. This only teaches your puppy aggression. Play games of fetch instead or let your puppy chase you around outside. This is a fun way of puppy training that will show your pet how to play with people instead of against them.

Remember that your puppy will soon grow into a mature dog and if you are unable to leave your pet at home, make sure they are comfortable riding in a car now, otherwise when your puppy reaches maturity; it may be a struggle to get him or her into the vehicle unless they are already familiar with the process. Dogs usually behave well when riding in a car, but placing them in a special seatbelt designed for pets is a good idea to ensure your dog’s safety. If you practice this type of puppy training when your dog is young, the more likely he/she will be eager to go for a ride at anytime. You do not want to have to force your dog into your vehicle because he/she is afraid or unfamiliar with being in a car, especially during visits to the vet.

When training puppy, always maintain patience and never yell. Your puppy wants to make you happy but may not understand your instructions until it is trained properly. Never subject your puppy to physical discipline, just like people, physical discipline will only result in harm or fear. Puppy training will take both time and patience, but the end result will be a well-behaved dog and your new best friend.

If you need additional information on puppy training with patience, look for a dog training course or puppy classes that are available in your area.
