Stop Dog Chewing

Stop dog chewing right away if you want to save your furniture, slippers, and other belongings and focus your dog on chewing its dog toys instead. Training your dog onDog Training what it can and can’t chew can be difficult and will take time and patience. Keep in mind; a dog’s chewing habits differs from one dog to the next, and you may need to try different approaches to stop dog chewing.

Your dog’s age has a lot to do with its chewing habits. Puppies are more likely to chew just about anything. The moment you take one object away from them, they have already found something else to gnaw on. Puppies can be discouraged from chewing your belongings when you keep chew toys readily available.

Tough rubber dental bones or rawhide bones are exciting for some dogs. Others enjoy chew toys that are hollow on the inside so you can fill them with treats. It keeps your dog busy as it tries to reach the tasty treats inside, freeing up time for you to hide what your possessions you want to protect from being chewed.

You can give your dog a gentle tap or speak to them in a sharp tone to stop dog chewing, but screaming at or beating your dog is cruel behavior and will not actually stop dog chewing. Instead, put your dog on a leash and offer it an unsuitable object. If the dog starts to creep forward, tug the leash in a sideway direction quickly and firmly, and present a firm “No!” Always tug sideways, and never backwards because you do not want to choke your dog or harm its thought. You want to teach your dog, not punish it.

If your dog has a habit of chewing on things outside like fences or plants, there are things you can use as pet repellents to prevent chewing. Lightly cover the leaves of the plant with cayenne pepper paste. It will not harm the plant but it will prevent your dog from chewing the plant again.

When training your dog, you must be consistent and patient. It is generally easier to train your dog to do something rather than to stop doing something so you can save yourself time and effort by redirecting your dog to chewing on treats and toys rather than trying to stop dog chewing all together.
